THOMSON – The Village of Thomson recently passed by unanimous consent a  Resolution of Appreciation to U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-17th District, for leading the bipartisan effort to successfully defend Thomson Correctional Facility and ensure it remains on track to open.

Bustos lead the charge in opposing an amendment that sought to deny funds from being used on Thomson prison. The amendment was defeated on a bipartisan basis, with no members of the Illinois congressional delegation supporting it.

The Department of Justice’s Bureau of Prisons announced it committed $53.7 million in funding to the activation of Thomson prison, creating more than 1,100 jobs.
