Plan for summer fun, fun, fun

PRINCETON – The Beach Boys will play at the Bureau County Fair this year. You read that right. The Beach Boys will be at the Bureau County Fair at 8 p.m. Aug. 21. Tickets for the show, and for the fair, which runs Aug. 20-24, go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday. Information is available and tickets can be bought at www.bureaucountyfair.com, at the fair ticket office, or at 815-875-2905. Beach Boys concert tickets range in price from $27 to $37.

Concert series kicks off in Mount Morris

MOUNT MORRIS – The Friday Night Campus Concert series begins tonight when the blues band The Jimmys perform at the band shell downtown. Concessions will open at 6 p.m., with the show starting at 7. The concert series continues through Aug. 8

Celebrate summer in Ashton

ASHTON – The Ashton Summer Celebration, Saturday and Sunday in the downtown, will have a petting zoo, dunk tank, tractor pulls and more. A car show Sunday will have a trophy presentation at 3 p.m. Also Sunday are a parade starting at 4:30 p.m. and fireworks at 9. Go to ashtonusa.com for a complete schedule.

Relays for Life in region

Relay for Life fundraising events for the American Cancer Society are this weekend in Dixon and Rock Falls. The Lee County Relay for Life will begin at 5 p.m. today at Dixon High School. The Whiteside County Relay for Life begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at the track at Rock Falls High School's Hinder's Field. In the event of rain, the Whiteside event will move to Westwood Fitness and Sports Center.

King Kat back on the Rock

Cabela's King Kat Tournament Trail returns to the Rock River today and Saturday. Tournament weigh-in is at Page Park in Dixon. Tournament hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, with fishing done between Milan and Oregon. A Cabela's King Kat Kids event will take place at the weigh-in site. It's free and open to kids 12 and younger. Sign up from 8 to 9 a.m. and fish from 9 to 11 a.m.
