Three Rockets named to BNC first team

Rock Falls senior pitcher Austin Donoho was a unanimous selection to the Big Northern West first team.

Cayden Erickson and Jacob Mammosser were also named to the first team. For a full list of players, turn to B6.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Newman to host fundamentals camp

Newman will host a basketball basic fundamentals camp held June 9-12 from noon to 2 p.m.The camp is for boys entering grades 3-8.

The cost is $50 and includes a basketball and T-shirt. There will be a reduced cost of $40 for a second family member.

Big Ten Tournament eyes MSG

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney met with Madison Square Garden officials about working out a deal to host the Big Ten basketball tournament at the Garden in 2018.

The venue is currently home to the Big East tournament, and tournament dates would likely have to be flexible.

Blackhawks announcer to HOF

Pat Foley will have a plaque in the Hall of Fame after receiving the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, given to broadcasters.

Foley has spent 31 seasons with the Blackhawks.

MLB

Wrigley renovation put on hold

The Chicago Cubs’ revised renovation plan will not be part of the Landmarks Commission meeting, further pushing back the start date of the renovations.

The Cubs are moving the bullpens from the foul lines to underneath the bleachers, and wanted to widen the outfield door. To do so, brick and ivy must be removed, which are under landmark protection.

Wiley joins painkiller lawsuit against NFL

Former defensive end Marcellus Wiley has joined a lawsuit against the NFL, alleging the league provided them with various prescription pills and painkillers in order to keep them on the field.

In April, Wiley was diagnosed with partial renal failure and the loss of half his kidney function.
