One hurt Tuesday in 2-vehicle crash

OGLE COUNTY – A Rockford man received serious injuries Tuesday night in a motorcycle versus car crash on state Route 251, about a half-mile north of state Route 72.

Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene at 5:15 p.m. An investigation revealed that a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Kevin Johnson, 52, was southbound on Route 251 approaching slowed traffic. Johnson tried to slow for traffic. He lost control of his motorcycle, which was laid down on its side and struck the rear of a Honda Accord driven by Craig Day, 80, of Poplar Grove.

Johnson was flown by REACT helicopter to Rockford Memorial Hospital, where he remained in critical condition Thursday. Neither Day, nor a passenger in his vehicle, Elizabeth Day, 77, of Poplar Grove, was injured. The crash remains under investigation.

Roadside safety checks planned

STERLING – District 1 State Police troopers will conduct roadside safety checks the weekend of June 14 in Ogle County.

The checks are funded through the state Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
