SOCCER

Amboy youth soccer to host camp

AYSO Region 1581, an Amboy area youth soccer program, will host an international summer camp from July 28 to August 1 at the Amboy Sports Park.

Participants will receive lessons from UK International Soccer instuctors.

Players ages 4-to-16 are welcome to attend.

Dixon to hold soccer camps

Both boys and girls high school soccer camps will be held from June 17-July 12.

The girls camp will be from 4:30-6 p.m., while the boys will start immediately after and will run until 7:30 p.m. Both camps will be held at Reagan Middle School.

LOCAL GOLF

Hurley advances to Midwest Regional

Ryan Dixon won the 16-18 year-old Junior Golf Championship at Emerald Hill on Tuesday. Dixon had a schedule conflict, so Ryan Hurley will advance to the Midwest Regional June 9-11 at Red Tail Golf Club in Decatur.

Dixon and Hurley both shot 78s during regulation, with Dixon winning a playoff hole.

Clayton Kemp also advanced out of the 12-13 year-old division.

BASEBALL

Three Cougars on NUIC West first team

The Eastland Cougars had three Northwest Upstate Illini West first-team baseball selections, while West Carroll had two.

Devin Hartman (sr. 2B), Ramsay Truckenmiller (sr. C) and Brighton Haverland (fr. 3B/SS) represented Eastland.

West Carroll’s selections were Shaun McGill (IF) and Josh Sullivan (IF).

Four area players on NUIC East first team

Forreston-Polo and Milledgeville each had two players selected to the Northwest Upstate Illini East first team.

Austin Groshans (so. SS/2B) and Brayden Wierzycki (sr. CF) represented the Cardinals.

Milledgeville’s players were Zach Herin (sr. 3B) and Devin Biller (sr. OF).

OUTDOORS

Walnut 5K for ALS research

The Walnut 5K run/walk for ALS research will be held at 8 a.m. on July 5 in front of Bureau Valley North Jr. High. Registration begins at 7 a.m.

The entry fee is $15 if received by June 28, and $20 if received after, or on the race date.

MLB

Cubs switch from WGN to WBBM

Starting next season, the Chicago Cubs’ radio broadcasts will no longer be heard on WGN 720 AM. The team announced it will move to WBBM 780 AM.

Both announcers, Pat Hughes and Ron Coomer, will also make the switch.
