VIRGINIA, Minn. – Melba Prelesnik, 90, of Virginia, Minnesota, formerly of Sterling, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Essential Care Center in Virginia.
She was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Galt, the daughter of Fred L. and Nellie (Fry) Scott. She attended schools in the Galt area. She worked more than 9 years for Frantz Manufacturing Co. in Sterling. Melba was an election judge for 25 years. She married Steve Prelesnik on Jan. 10, 1948. They lived in Rock Falls for 7 years, and then north of Sterling until 1977, when they moved to Britt, Minnesota. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling.
Melba is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Leona and Jim Gustafson of Britt, Minnesota; two grandsons, Josh (Megan) Gustafson of Des Moines, Iowa, and Steve Gustafson of Mountain Iron, Minnesota; two great-grandsons, Carter Gustafson and Hunter Gustafson, both of Des Moines; her sister, June Metcalf of Lyndon; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve, of 49 years; two sons, Gregg in 1986, and Mike in 1969; four brothers, Arthur, Lyle, Asa, and John Scott; and two sisters, Vida “Sister” Portner and Betty O’Bryan.
A memorial service was April 9, 2014, in Minnesota. Local graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Sacred Heart section of Riverside Cemetery in Sterling. Range Funeral Home in Virginia, Minnesota, handled arrangements.
