Jarrett, Lilly honored by NIB-12

Dixon junior Cal Jarrett and Sterling senior Bryant Lilly were both named to the NIB-12 West all-conference first team. Jarrett was named as a pitcher, and Lilly as an outfielder.

Geneseo’s Billy Converse was named MVP. A full list of all-conference players can be found on B4.


Maike named NUIC West first team

West Carroll junior outfielder and pitcher Abby Maike was the lone area player named to the NUIC West all-conference first team.

The Thunder had three players named to the second team, while Eastland also had three players on the second team. Pearl City’s Halle Fransen was named player of the year.

Dukes to host summer camps

Dixon High School basketball coach Jason Mead will be hosting camps this summer at Lancaster Gym.

The camp for grade school students will be June 9-11 from 8 -10 a.m. Cost is $30. The middle school camp will be the same days from 10 a.m to noon, and the cost is $30.

The high school camp will be June 4 to July 1. Cost is $65 for varsity and $50 for fresh/soph.


Girls hoops camps at Dixon High School

Dixon girls basketball coach Luke Ravlin will be hosting camps for students in grades 2-8 this summer.

Grades 2-5 will meet from 5:30-7 p.m. at Dixon High School on the nights of July 24 and 25. Cost is $20.

Grades 6-8 will be on July 21-23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $30.


Battier to ESPN after NBA FInals

Shane Battier has said more than once this season that his retirement was looming.

Now, days before he and the Heat are set to take on the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, it seems all but official that these will be Battier’s last games as a player and that he’ll be doing something a little different soon enough.

Battier, a former Duke star, has agreed to a multi-year television deal with ESPN to become a college basketball analyst next season.


Elway’s son accused of assaulting woman

The 24-year-old son of Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway was arrested in Colorado on Saturday on suspicion of assault against a woman police described as his girlfriend.

John Albert Elway III, 24, was taken into custody about 4 a.m. by Denver police at his father’s Cherry Hills home after he allegedly argued with the woman as they drove in his car in downtown Denver.

Elway pulled over and allegedly dragged the woman from the car by her hair, said Sonny Jackson, a Denver police spokesman.
