In celebration, an afternoon of jazz in Grand Detour

GRAND DETOUR – This year, Rosalind “Roz” Wakem turns 77. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer last year, she wasn’t sure she’d make it that far.

She’s decided to mark the occasion with an afternoon of music Saturday at the little historic St. Peter’s Church, 8225 S. Main Street, in Grand Detour.

The Joel Ross Trio will be coming down from Rockford for the occasion, performing songs from the ‘20s, ‘30s, and ‘40s.

“It’s tasteful,” Wakem said. “It’s very good music. It’s romantic music, for the most part – danceable and romantic.”

The event is open to the community and begins at 4 p.m.

“This started out as something where I was going to invite a few people, and then it turned out that they were going to bring some people,” Wakem said.

And then one of her friends suggested the idea that it would be a lovely thing for the community to enjoy as well. Wakem agreed.

“I know I will enjoy the music,” she said.
