Classic Rewind – June 13, 1998

New name, new home

MVP: Jeremy Yanke, Amboy, 21 points, 5 rebounds

Recap: The Classic changed names – Sauk Valley Newspapers Classic – and venues. Sauk Valley
Community College would become the regular home for the SVN Classic in years to come. Yanke became the second consecutive Clipper to take home MVP honors, following Jacob Jones in 1997. Fulton’s Eric Damhoff and Morrison’s Jed Swanson led the Gazette with 13 points apiece. Yanke also took the 3-point contest title, and Dixon’s Andre Sayles won the dunk contest.

Coming this year

• The 2014 SVM All-Star Classic
will be coming from Musgrove
Fieldhouse on the campus of Sterling High School on June 19, 2014. The girls game starts at 5 p.m. The boys game will follow at 7 p.m.

Kara Nehrkorn is a three-sport athlete, and she became the first female golfer from Rock Falls to advance to the state tournament earlier this school year.
