STERLING – This year’s Woodlawn Dance Academy Competition Team competed recently.

The team attended the Celebration Talent Dance Competition in Rockford, the Cathy Roe Ultimate Dance Competition in Oswego, and the Rainbow National Dance Competition in Freeport. Among the awards they received were Ultimate Elite, Double Platinum, Overall High Score, Specialty, and Best Costumes.

Woodlawn’s hip-hop dancers were invited to join the CRU Crew at the Cathy Roe Nationals, an invitation-only group for top hip-hop dancers from around the country.

Erika Matheney and Christy Zepezauer direct the academy’s dance competition teams.

Auditions for the 2014-15 team are July 9 and 10. The teams are for dedicated dancers ages 6 to 18 who want the chance to compete and perform.

Dancers who would like to audition must participate in the appropriate age-group dance camp from July 7 to 11. During the dance year, they are required to take two technique classes, in addition to competition rehearsals. All dancers on the teams will attend at least two competitions and one convention.

To register for dance camps, visit apm.activecommunities.com/woodlawnarts or stop at the academy, 3807 Woodlawn Road, or call 815-626-4278.

For competition team details, call Becky.
