Doris J. Steward

BELVIDERE – Doris June Steward, 74, of Belvidere, formerly of Dixon, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. She was a tax preparer for H&R Block before her retirement.

Doris was born Dec. 31, 1939, in Illinois, the daughter of Eilert and Trientje (Oelrichs) Hippen. She married Robert E. Steward on Jan. 3, 1963, in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1997.

Survivors include one daughter, Bronwyn (Kellan) Miller of Belvidere; three brothers, Jack (Veronica) Hippen of Dixon, David (Wanda) Hippen of Rock Falls, and Ailt “Bud” (Sally) Hippen of Sterling; one sister, Shirley (Dale) Magnuson of Walnut; and two grandchildren, Nancy Sue Miller of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Natania Siobhan Miller of Belvidere.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Stephanie Steward; and two sisters, Ann Mitchell and Florence Bailey.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday and the funeral at 2 p.m. Saturday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, with the Rev. Mike Jones, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Dixon, officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.

A memorial has been established to Granny Rose Animal Shelter.
