STERLING – Lillian E. Doty, 97, of Sterling, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 29, 1916, in Fairhaven Township in Carroll County, the daughter of Arthur M. and Pearl (Queckborner) Lott. She married Arthur P. Doty on March 7, 1936, in Ottawa. He died Dec. 6, 1993. Lillian was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling. She was a member of the Edith Eykamp Circle, and had taught Sunday school. Lillian was a past Cub Scouts den mother with pack 305. She had served as past president of Church Women United, past president of Lutheran Church Women, and past president of a bowling league. She enjoyed cooking, baking for others, reading, and watching sports on TV.

Surviving are her daughter, Doris M. Smith of Sterling; her sons, Thomas P. (Barbara) Doty of Fulton, Donald A. (Barbara) Doty of Manito, and Terry L. (Mary) Doty of Dixon; two sisters, Hope Carbaugh of Freeport and Rena Mannon of Prophetstown; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Winsor, Willard, Arthur Jr., and Eugene Lott; one sister, Beatrice Woolridge; and her son-in-law, Leslie Smith.

Visitation will be from 10 to 10:50 a.m. Monday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Brandon Nelson, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling is handling arrangements.

Memorials have been established to St. John Lutheran Church and Self Help Enterprises.
