AMBOY – Deryle A. “D.J.” Nickel, 34. of Amboy, died Saturday May 24, 2014, at Mendota Community Hospital, as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born Oct. 3, 1979, in Monroe, Wisconsin, the son of Deryle and Judy (Delhotal) Nickel. He married Beth Burkart on Oct. 11, 2013, in Sublette. He had worked for D&L Concrete, then the West Brooklyn Co-op. He currently was employed with Local 150 for 13 years as a heavy equipment operator. D.J. was a member of Pheasants Forever.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Calvin, Kenzie, and Baylie, all at home; his parents of Amboy; one sister, Francine (Scott) Sichta of Joliet; one brother, Hank (Genia) Nickel of Mendota; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Delhotal of Dixon; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Donald Delhotal, and his paternal grandparents, Alfred and Alyce Nickel.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Scripture service at 8 p.m., Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Thomas Bales officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy. Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy is handling arrangements.
A memorial has been established for his children’s education.
