Charles H. ‘Charlie’ Cecil

WILLIAMS BAY, Wis. – Charles H. “Charlie” Cecil, 70, of Williams Bay, formerly of Elgin, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, at his home.

He was born May 29, 1943, in Evanston. Charlie owned and operated Component Hardware Corp. for many years before retiring. He was very active in the Elgin Jaycees, St. James Episcopal Church of West Dundee, and the Miss Elgin and Miss Illinois pageants. He was a charter member of the Elgin Breakfast Rotary Club and was made an honorary lifetime member. Charlie loved fishing, boating, playing bridge, woodworking, and spending time with friends and family. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Cheri Cecil, whom he married on Sept. 30, 2000; two daughters, Kimberly Cecil and Debbie (Mike) Sheehy; two stepchildren, Carla (Tim) Mote and Jeff Burnett; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Cecil.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Cecil and Mary Etnyre; and his first wife, Bonnie (Taylor) Cecil.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home in Elgin. Visitation also will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday and celebration of the Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Crane Road in St. Charles. Inurnment will be at Prairie Cemetery in St. Charles.

Memorials may be made to a charity or hospice of the donor’s choice.
