Chamber announces area events

MORRISON – The Morrison Chamber of Commerce has released information on several events, including an alumni football game.

Odell Public Library’s Summer Reading Club will begin Thursday and runs through July 17. The group of preschoolers through those in eighth grade will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays. Registration ends today at the library, 307 S. Madison St. Call 815-772-7323 for information.

■ The Friends of the Park Foundation will have a trail dedication and reception in honor of the first segment of the Morrison-Rockwood Recreational Trail. A ribbon cutting will be at noon at the trail head intersection of Crosby and Norrish roads, followed by snacks and a birds of prey demonstration.

Those attending are welcome to try out the trail. Dogs are welcome. A temporary outdoor art exhibit on the trail, “Forest of My Three Words,” will be open. This is an interactive installation to express stories through three-word inscriptions. The words are placed on ribbons and attached to bamboo poles.

■ School sports physicals will be conducted this summer at the Morrison Family Health Clinic, 636 E. Lincolnway. Call the clinic at 815-772-7491 for more information.

■ Resthave Nursing Home, 408 Maple Ave., will have its annual ice cream social from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday on the lawn. Ukulele Connection will perform at 6 p.m. Barbecue or hot dogs, baked beans, dessert, and a drink are on the menu. There will be no performance if it rains.

■ Morrison Community Vacation Bible School will be from 6 to 8 p.m. June 23-26 at Morrison Junior High School, 305 E. Winfield St. The event is for children age 4 to those entering eighth grade. Registration forms are available from area churches and Odell Public Library.
