FULTON – Bernard J. Engelkins, 88, of Fulton, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, Iowa.

He was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Fulton to Burnie O. and Nellie (Shipma) Engelkens. He married Dorothy M. Geerts on Aug. 31, 1946, in Clinton; she died Dec. 8, 2005. Bernie was Navy veteran who served during World War II. He worked for various area concrete contractors and the International Union of Cement Finishers Local 15 in Clinton, and was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton.

He is survived by a daughter, Vicki Steward of Clinton; sons, Jerry (Diane) Engelkins of Morrison and Steve (Alice) Engelkins of Savanna; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ricky Engelkins; sisters, Carrie Wiersema, Elizabeth Rus, Nellie Port, Estella Dyson, and Lois Spangler; and brothers, John, Arthur and Edward Engelkens.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Fulton. The funeral is at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Philip Stel, pastor of First Christian Reformed Church, officiating. Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton.
