TAMPICO – An 85-year-old Rock Falls man was killed and his wife seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday morning at Luther and Fargo roads north of Tampico.

Robert L. Unterzuber was eastbound around 10:30 a.m. when he failed to stop at the stop sign on Fargo, and was struck by a southbound delivery truck driven by Charlie C. Vasquez, 56, also of Rock Falls, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Unterzuber was pronounced dead at the scene; Marilyn K. Unterzuber, 84, was taken to CGH Medical Center in Sterling, then transferred to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where she was listed in good condition Monday, a spokeswoman there said.

McDonald Funeral Homes is handling Robert Unterzuber’s arrangements.
