DeKALB – Amy Adams of Sterling was named this year’s 4-C: Community Coordinated Child Care’s Friend of the Child during the April 22 4-C annual meeting.

The award was established in 1989 to recognize the outstanding efforts of individuals and organizations that have made a difference in the lives of young children.

Adams was described by her nominator as spending her career working as a champion for children.

She began her professional career working with adolescent girls and from there moved on to work with first-time mothers to provide parental support and education.

During her tenure at Sinnissippi, she helped to advocate programs for children ages 0-5, to enhance their social and emotional development.

When her program began receiving referrals for children as young as 3 with acting out behavior, and were at risk of being expelled from programs, she found the resources to provide appropriate assessments and services for them to receive the vital mental health support needed.

Amy also spearheaded the grant writing for two grants that continue to support this ag group.

She always makes sure child care is represented in all of the community projects she works on.

“I learned from Amy to honor the family and the parents,” a nominator said. She believes that the role of the parent in the family is the most important relationship in the success of the children,

4-C was established in 1971 to promote children’s well-being by advocating for quality, affordable, accessible child care.

It supports families and those providing child care by offering information, education, resources, and services.
