Obituaries

Beloved Son

ROCKFORD – Robert C. Vanderleest, 35, of Rockford, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, with his family by his side.

He was born Aug. 10, 1978, in Rockford, son of Robert and Patricia (Lee) Vanderleest. Rob loved roleplaying and live action roleplaying, especially the game “Vampire Masquerade.” His biggest love was video games. He was a master of the game “Street Fighter,” and his room regularly would become the place for tournaments. He also enjoyed comic books.

Survivors include his father; his sisters, Laura (Loren) Miesner and Alice Gill Wright; nieces, Lindsey and Chelsea; great-nephew, Kaiden; great-niece, Olivia; aunts, Ondean (Donald) Courtney, Karla (Steve) Zingre, and Chris (Charlie) Jones; uncle, Richard (Nancy) Vanderleest; very special cousin, Shannon Kutz; best friends, Chris and Jerome; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother; his grandparents, Carl and Hallie Affinito, Amelia and Vance Waite, and Robert Vanderleest; and a great-niece, Elliott.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services at Colonial Village, 1340 S. Alpine Road, Rockford, with the Rev. Ron C. Meyer officiating. The family requests that you dress in casual attire.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
