Warriors roll past Panthers

Sterling baseball beats Ottawa; Rockets shut down Cogs

Karlie Mellott went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs Tuesday to lead the Sterling Golden Warriors to 6-2 home victory over United Township.

Erin Stroup added three hits, including a double, for the Warriors (23-7), while Mellott ripped a two-run home run. Nadia Trujillo added an RBI double, and Lauren Fritz drove in a run with a groundout as Sterling scored twice in the fifth and three more times in the sixth.

Lexy Staples gave up two runs and seven hits in a complete-game effort, striking out three and walking four.

2A Stillman Valley Regional

Stillman Valley 10, Oregon 0, 6 inn.: The Hawks managed just four singles against Cardinals starter Payton Abbott, who helped her own cause with three hits – including a home run – and three RBIs.

Ali Green added a two-run homer for Stillman, which jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back. Abbott struck out seven without a walk.

Abby Baker took the loss for Oregon, allowing 14 hits and 10 runs – but only four were earned.

2A Morrison Regional

Alleman 12, West Carroll 1, 5 inn.: The Thunder were out-hit 14-4, and trailed 11-0 after two innings in a regional semifinal loss.

Darby Rumler drove in the lone run for West Carroll (12-19). Starter Abby Maike lasted just an inning and a third in the circle.

Anna Wetherell and Abby Thomson drove in two runs each for Alleman (26-6). Starter Dakota Stout allowed one hit, and struck out four without a walk in three shutout innings.

2A St. Bede Regional

Seneca 14, Bureau Valley 0, 5 inn.:Sarah Radtke’s two home runs and six RBIs led the Fighting Irish past the Storm in a regional semifinal. Irini Petros took the loss for BV.

Baseball

Sterling 7, Ottawa 1: Bryant Lilly went the distance on the mound, and helped his own cause with three hits and two RBIs in a NIB-12 West win on the road.

Lilly struck out three and walked three while allowing one earned run and seven hits in seven innings. Quentin Borum was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Brandon Dennis also drove in a pair of runs, and Brady Siegmund added three hits and two runs scored.

Frankie Perino chipped in an RBI for the Golden Warriors, who out-hit the Pirates 13-7 and took advantage of five Ottawa errors.

Rock Falls 7, Genoa-Kingston 1: James McFadden struck out seven without a walk in a complete-game victory in a Big Northern crossover contest in Rock Falls.

McFadden allowed one unearned run and six hits for the Rockets (18-9), who led 4-0 after two innings. Reid Akerman had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while Dallas Jones added two hits and an RBI.

Jacob Mammosser and Cayden Erickson also drove in runs for Rock Falls.
