SVM scouts 2014 boys tennis sectional

Rock Island Sectional

When: Friday, Saturday

Where: Rock Island High School

Local teams: Dixon, Newman, Sterling

Other teams: Alleman, Galesburg, Geneseo, Moline, Princeton, Rock Island, United Township

Singles to watch: Sam Bratt, Dixon fr.; Stephen Golden, United Township; Mark McLaughlin, Allmen sr.; Jack Nitz, Sterling so.; Brady Reuter, Newman sr.

Doubles to watch: John Brechon & Keenan Longan, Dixon; Dustin Stoudt & Zak Kahn, Sterling; J.P. Neisewander & Andrew Schmitt, Newman; Pranav Puri & Justin Rumley, Moline

Outlook: Moline won the Western Big 6 tennis title led by the doubles duo of Puri, Rumley. Alleman's McLaughlin was top singles seed in that tournament, but lost in the championship to a Quincy player. The singles division will be senior dominated, which could make it tough for young locals like Nitz and Bratt. Moline sported two of the top three teams at the Western Big tournament and could send two teams to state.

Advancement: Top four singles and doubles teams advance to state tournament host by Hersey High School in Arlington Heights on May 29-31.
