Class 2A Burlington Central Sectional
When: 4 p.m. Friday
Where: Burlington Central H.S.
Local teams: Dixon, Rock Falls, Sterling
Rest of field: Belvidere, Boylan, Burlington Central, Freeport, Galena, Genoa-Kingston, Kaneland, Pecatonica, Rochelle, Rockford Christian, Stillman Valley, Sycamore, Winnebago
Athletes to watch: Nate Dyer, Kaneland; Lucas Ege, Burlington Central; Brayden Hamblen, Rock Falls; Dion Hooker, Sycamore; Dylan Kuipers, Kaneland; Kylian Lally, Dixon; Jonathan Landis, Sterling; Jeffrey Swanson, Winnebago; Simon Thorpe, Dixon; Logan White, Sycamore
Outlook: Distance is where the local schools will most likely make their mark, as Dixon’s Thorpe, Sterling’s Landis, and Rock Falls’ Hamblen will lead a solid pack of locals. Dixon’s Lally could turn some heads in the 800, and the Dukes’ 3,200 relay team would love to add a trip to state to the school record it already set earlier this month.
Advancement: Top two finishers in each event, plus those meeting or exceeding state qualifying standards, advance to the state meet, May 29-31 in Charleston
