Joe Behrens, 18, of Rock Falls, is Rock Falls High School's May Student of the Month. He is the son of Joe and Tess Behrens, and has a sister, Annie 33, and brothers Andrew, 31, Tom, 28, and Mike, 26.
Favorite class: Woods, because it is challenging and Mr. Hughes is one of the best teachers that I ever had. He makes class fun, and I am amazed by how much I have learned from him. Rock Falls High School is going to lose a great teacher when he retires.
Least favorite class: Throughout all of my years at RFHS, no class has confused me more than economics. Something about it makes my head spin.
Extracurricular: I'm a member of the RFHS bass fishing club.
Favorite teacher: Mr. Meltzer was my environmental geophysical science teacher sophomore year, and I also helped him hand out slips for after-school HEAT detentions. He and I have much in common, and he will do anything to help anyone. He is an excellent example of how all teachers should be.
After graduation: I plan to attend Sauk Valley Community College for law enforcement. I have always looked up to police officers for putting their lives on the line.
Paycheck: I work at Rigler's Sports Supply in Rock Falls. I do anything from cleaning the bathroom to selling guns. Working at Rigler's was a dream of mine since I was just a little kid. I love my job very much, I enjoy talking with customers who share a love for guns and the outdoors like I do. I also work with a great group of people.
Best friends: I have two people in my life that I don't know how I would get along without them: my two cousins, Blake and Bryce Behrens. We do everything together. Whether it's for a quick trip to Menard's or Farm and Fleet, we will always call each other to see if the others want to ride along. I would do anything to help either of them out, and I know without a doubt that they would for me.
Favorite singer: Eric Church
Favorite musical group: I really don't have a favorite. I'll listen to almost anything that's on the radio.
Favorite actor: Jim Carrey. He is one of the funniest guys I have ever seen.
Favorite movie: "Office Space." I doesn't matter how many times I see it, I still find it hilarious.
Favorite TV show: "Swamp People." It is cool to see the different cultures in America. When you listen to how the people on the show talk, compared to how people here talk, it is amazing how different it is.
Hobbies: Hunting, fishing, and shooting. If it involves being outdoors, I'm in.
Favorite game: Baseball. I am a Cubs fan.
Favorite indoor activity: Watching TV or movies.
Favorite food: My mom's oven fried chicken. It beats KFC, Candlelight, or any other place, hands down.
Biggest fear: Centipedes. I will field dress deer, filet fish, and help my dad on sewer jobs. But when it come to centipedes, I'm out of here.
What makes your blood boil? When people talk bad about things that they have no clue about. If you don't have facts to back up what you're saying, don't say it.
What kind of music makes your skin crawl? Rap music. I don't see a point in singing about dealing drugs and running from the law.
Favorite hangout: My cousins have a barn that we hang out in nearly every night. We made it into our own man cave. We spend time in there mainly in the winter because during the summer we are always out doing something.
High school survival guide: Do your homework. If you don't do your homework, that leads to detentions and your teachers will lose respect for you. At Rock Falls High School, you have to try to fail. The teachers and administration are always willing to help you through whatever you are having trouble with.
Useless knowledge: The entire list of prepositions
I'm in the dictionary next to: Genuine. I am what I am, and if you don't like it, I'm sorry.
Secret twin: I don't really see it, but I have been told that I look just like Dexter on "American Idol."
Trading places: I would be president for a day. I would like to see what really goes on behind the scenes.
Trading spaces: I would go to Louisiana to see the swamps and the bayous. I think it would be cool to meet the people down there. I would also do an alligator hunt.
Shout out to: My mom and dad for giving me all of the love, care, and help through the years to make me the person I am today. I don't always show it, but you two mean the world to me, and I will always be thankful for what you have done for me.
