MVP: Mike Blaine, Dixon, 27 points, three 3s

Recap: The 1987 game offered a sneak peek for fans, as it was the first with the new 3-point line that was instituted in the IHSA the next season. The Red team made more, but the Blue team won the rebounding battle 57-41, led by Polo’s Chris Dusing’s 13. Amboy’s Derek Jacobson won the first 3-point contest, making 7-of-15. AFC’s Mike Smith led the Red team with 21 points. The Blue team was coached by Glenn McPherson (Dixon), and the Red team by Tom Allen (Newman).

Coming this year

• The 2014 SVM All-Star Classic
will be coming from Musgrove Fieldhouse on the campus of Sterling High School on June 19, 2014. The girls game starts at 5 p.m. The boys game will follow at 7 p.m.

We’ll be following Brian Cavanaugh’s quest to make the state track meet in the high jump. He also helped the Marcos hoops team to great heights last winter.
