Blues and bluegrass in Franklin Grove
FRANKLIN GROVE – It's Blues and Bluegrass night today at the H.I. Lincoln Building, 136 N. Elm St. Open stage acoustic gospel, folk, country, blues and bluegrass will be performed, starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free; donations are accepted to help with the upkeep of the historic building.
Go Disney in Oregon
OREGON – The Oregon High School choir will perform a concert at 7 p.m. today featuring scenes, decor, and costumes from Disney films. The show will be in the music room at the school, 210 S. 10th St. There will be arts and crafts activities for kids at 6:15 p.m., with a procession at 6:45. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased at the door.
Honor servicemen and women in Dixon
DIXON – A Blue Star Memorial Plaque will be dedicated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dixon Veterans Memorial Park. Dignitaries will speak, and the Dixon National Guard unit will present the colors. The Blue Star Memorial Program, which was started by National Garden Clubs Inc., honors American servicemen and women who have served, or are or will be serving in the armed forces.
Military celebrations in twin cities
An inaugural Rock Falls-Sterling Joint Armed Forces Day Celebration will be at three sites this weekend. A Veterans Family Day Picnic, with bounce houses, fire truck rides, and other activities from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Sinnissippi Park in Sterling. There will be a nondenominational church service at 9 a.m. Sunday at Hinders Memorial Park, 508 15th Ave., in Rock Falls. Finally, a military awards and recognition ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grandon Civic Center, 602 First Ave., Sterling.
Kids on the run in the region
Would you like to go watch a high school track meet? Friday's a great day for it. The boys' Three Rivers Conference meet is at 4 p.m. in Morrison. If you don't mind driving a bit, a girls Class 1A sectional meet will start at 4 p.m. in Byron, while a Class 2A girls sectional will begin at 4 p.m. in Freeport. The boys NIB-12 meet is at 3 p.m. in Kaneland.
