Third time’s the charm

Date: Friday, June 13, 1986

Location: Lancaster Gym, Dixon

Score: West team 108, East team 97

MVP: Jim Preston, Newman, 30 points, 6 assists

Recap: Preston, the current boys varsity coach at Sterling, shrugged off the flu bug and tough defense to score 20 points by halftime in a win for the West team. The East team, who was coached by Ken Neahring (Franklin Center), tried to overcome the loss of Brad Bickett – the current Rock Falls coach – who broke his hand earlier in the week playing softball. Rochelle’s Mike Mershon led the East with 23 points. Dixon’s Matt Melvin, a 6-foot-6 center, scored 22 points for the West, which was coached by Terry Olson (Polo).
