Basketball: SVM All-Star Classic Rewind – June 14, 1985

Location: Lancaster Gym, Dixon

Score: East team 97, West team 86

MVP: John Bothe, Amboy, 18 points, 12 rebounds

Recap: Coach Lloyd Johnson (Ohio) improved to 2-0 in the Classic, as the East won for the second year in a row. Bothe and Ashton’s David Cicciarelli combined to score 18 fourth-quarter points. The East went on a 12-4 run in the final 2:37 to pull away for win. Bothe also became the first slam-dunk contest winner, beating Dixon’s Tom Wilson and Curt Ennenga of Mount Morris. Mike Cross of Mount Morris led the West team with 22 points. The West was coached by Dave McFadden (Walnut).

Coming this year

• The 2014 SVM All-Star Classic
will be coming from Musgrove Fieldhouse on the campus of Sterling High School on June 19, 2014. The girls game starts at 5 p.m. The boys game will follow at 7 p.m.

Leading the Telegraph girls team this season is Dixon’s Brooke Bailey. The 5-foot-7 guard was a 4-year starter and averaged 16.9 ppg last season.
