DIXON – Michael W. Bates, 49, of Dixon, died Monday, May 12, 2014, at his home.

He was born March 19, 1965, in Sterling, the son of Delmar W. and Norma J. (DeLap) Bates. He attended Rock Falls and Sterling schools. He served in the Army from 1983 to 1986. Michael had worked for more than 20 years as a laborer with Union Local 727. For the past 3 years, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed riding his Harley and playing pool. He loved his dog, Santana. Michael lived life to its fullest.

Surviving are his son, Ryan Bates of Sterling; his daughters, Michaela and Melissa Bates, both of Dixon; his mother, Norma Bates of Sterling; his sisters, Rebecca (Michael) Henry of Harmon and Mardel (Denny) Johnson of Sterling; and special friends, Jeff Slater and Denise Ingle.

He was preceded in death by his son, Brandon in infancy; and his father, Delmar.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls.
