CHICAGO (AP) – Chicago police say a bystander rescued a 3-year-old boy who was trapped inside a stolen SUV that crashed into a wall on the city’s South Side, bursting into flames.

Authorities say the child was rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital after being resuscitated by the witness and a police sergeant.

Sunday evening’s crash happened shortly before midnight. Police say the boy’s mother reported that the vehicle had been reported stolen. It slammed into a vacant building in the city’s West Englewood neighborhood and then driver ran away.

By the time police arrived, the SUV was engulfed in flames.

Police say the mother has identified the person she believes stole the vehicle. They say Monday that no arrests have been made.
