Sosa so good for Sterling

Warriors beat Dukes for second straight day; Rockets lose

Esteban Sosa earned the win for Sterling after allowing one earned run on five hits over seven innings in 4-1 win over Dixon at Veterans Memorial Field. Sosa issued one walk and struck out seven.

The Golden Warriors were efficeint, scoring four runs on four hits. Esteban Sosa, Brady Siegmund, Bryant Lilly, and Rafael Sosa each had one – all singles.

Mendota 5, Rock Falls 4: The Rockets lost a Big Northern West game on the road to Mendota.

Stillman Valley 3, Oregon 0: Sawyer Reynolds and Tyler Blume each had a pair of hits for the Hawks in a road loss to the Cardinals.

Mason Smith was the losing pitcher, allowing three runs and seven hits, with five strikeouts.

Milledgeville 15, AFC 5, 5 inn.: Baily Queckboerner doubled, singled twice, and drove in four runs as the Missiles handled the Raiders in Milledgeville.

Kameron DawTyne knocked in three runs for the Missiles (6-7, 4-6 NUIC East), and was also the winning pitcher.

Tristan Bushman had two hits for AFC (5-12, 1-10).

Aquin 8, Forreston-Polo 5: Brayden Wierzycki clubbed a two-run homer for the Cardinals in a home loss to the Bulldogs.

Ethan Groom took the loss for Forreston-Polo (12-8, 9-2 NUIC East), allowing seven runs, 10 hits and three walks in five innings. He also struck out five.

West Carroll 6, Galena 2: Marshall Benters struck out nine and allowed three hits and two earned runs in a home win for the Thunder.

Shaun Magill went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while teammate Josh Sullivan added two singles. Eight Thunder batters recorded hits.

Cougars take two: Eastland won a pair of games from River Ridge at Ashford University in Clinton, 2-0 in the opener and 8-6 in the nightcap.

Men's baseball

Sauk Valley 6, Highland 2:
Mario Pacheco allowed three hits and no walks over nine innings to lead the Skyhawks over the Cougars in a regional play-in game at home.

Pacheco also had seven strikeouts. Joey Sullivan and Jake Randall each drove in two runs. Sean Ritter had three hits, including a double.

Eastland graduate Tyler Giedd took the loss, allowing eight hits and six runs with three strikeouts and two walks.

Sauk advances to the double-elimination regional that begins on Saturday in Madison.
