Roundup: Ward throws no-no at Mendota

Michaela Ward flirted with a perfect game, and Rock Falls scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth inning to pull out a 1-0 decision on Tuesday at Mendota.

Ward (12-3) didn't allow a hit, struck out 15 batters and walked only one – the Trojans' Reiss Avery in the fifth inning.

In the eighth, Rock Falls' Chelsi Blair reached on a single. Ward followed with a groundout, and Blair motored toward third base on the play. Mendota's first baseman threw wildly in an attempt to get Blair at third, and she scored the game's only run.

Blair had three of Rock Falls' seven hits, including a double.

Amboy 15, Kewanee 5: Karlee Doege doubled, singled three times and drove in seven runs as the Clippers beat the Boilermakers in Kewanee.

Taylor Hicks added two RBIs for Amboy, while Madeline Ely singled three times. Destinee Oenes was the winning pitcher.

Milledgeville 12, AFC 4: Ally Bush homered twice and drove in three runs to lead the Missiles past the visiting Raiders.

Also for Milledgeville, Morgan Adolph doubled twice, singled and drove in two runs. Kayleigh Leddy and Jenna Bibler also knocked in two runs. Adolph was the winning pitcher.

Cassidy Koning and Addison Wetzel each had doubles for AFC.

Forreston-Polo 7, Aquin 0: Jozi Grobe and Kate Metzger combined to scatter 11 hits as the Cardinals blanked the Bulldogs in Polo.

Destiny Darmon and Jess Slater each rapped out three hits for Forreston-Polo (15-4, 11-2 NUIC East), and Abby Peterson added two.

West Carroll 14, Galena 0, 5 inn.: Cassidy Rice tossed a 4-hitter to lead the Thunder past the Pirates in Thomson.

Haley Appel was the hitting star for West Carroll with double, single and five RBIs. Abby Maike drove in three runs.

Stillman Valley 10, Oregon 0: Abby Baker took the loss for Oregon after allowing 10 hits and 10 runs (four earned) in seven innings. She walked three and struck out four. She also had two singles for Oregon.

The Hawks committed six errors which held Stillman Valley score runs in six of the seven innings in its road win.
