Duchesses split in Winnebago

Rockets get back on winning track with sweep in Rockford

Brooke Bailey doubled, singled and drove in four runs to lead the Dixon softball team to a 17-1 victory at Winnebago on Saturday in the second game of a road doubleheader.

Emily Bay and Allison Newman each drove in three runs for the Duchesses (6-13), who erupted for 14 runs in the top of the third. Haley Fitzsimmons knocked in two runs. Beccah Jones was the winning pitcher.

In the opener, the Indians pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 3-2 decision. Jones and Bailey had RBIs for Dixon. Erin Smith was the losing pitcher.

Rock Falls sweeps on road: The Rockets won both games of a doubleheader against host Guilford, while not allowing a run in either game.

Rock Falls won the first game 6-0, behind a three-hit game from Nicole Tupper. Teammate Paige Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a triple and Julie Dodd (3-2) earned the win in the circle, going all seven innings while allowing just three hits and striking out 11.

Michaela Ward picked up where Dodd left off, and pitched seven shutout innings in a 5-0 win in Game 2.

Ward allowed two hits and struck out 11 while walking none. Kara Nehrkorn went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double in the win.

Orion 7, Amboy 2: Kelsie Thurman hit a solo home run for the Clippers in a home loss to the Chargers.

Breanna Moore and Bailey Eastin each doubled, singled, and drove in two runs for Orion.

Girls soccer

Dixon 6, Winnebago 0: Caitlin Rozek scored two goals and had one assist as the Duchesses blanked the Indians in Winnebago.

Elizabeth Provo, Cristen Rozek, Lauren Chacon and Ashley Knopp had goals for Dixon (13-4), while Kirsten DeArvil, Katie Provo and Olivia Sztochmal added assists.
