Rock Falls phone scam reported

Caller apparently seeks large donation

ROCK FALLS – The Rock Falls Chamber and the Carson & Barnes Circus warn residents of a phone scam in this area.

People have reported that they received calls asking for donations to the circus, but that those donations do not go through an entity related to the chamber or circus, according to a news release.

The scammer apparently asks for large donations to the circus and mentions children’s tickets, but if the recipient of the call doesn’t say yes or starts asking more specific questions, the caller hangs up.

Children’s tickets are being sold at a discounted rate by Shelby Tuning, a representative from the circus, but the chamber warns that the scammer is unrelated.

The chamber asks that people should make sure they’re speaking to Shelby Tuning from Carson & Barnes Circus, or one of their staff. Any donation should go directly to the Rock Falls Chamber, 601 W. 10th St., Rock Falls IL 61071.

Anyone with questions can call Bethany at 815-625-4500.
