Business notebook: Consignment shop for art, antiques opens in Sterling

STERLING – There's a new consignment shop downtown for all you artsy, antiquey types looking for a place to sell your eclectic creations and collections.

Not coincidentally, it's called Eclectic.

Zachary Olson opened Tuesday at 19 E. Third St., next door to another consignment shop, Only the Best, in the building he owns with his three brothers, David, Matt and Rob.

Olson, 33, of Sterling, is looking for artists, antique dealers and others to fill his walls and his 20-some booths with high-end antiques, and handmade items such as repurposed goods, furniture, soaps, paper, jewelry, metalwork, photos, paintings ...

"We're looking for pretty much anything awesome," he said.

The Olson boys bought the building and remodeled it into law offices for David, who has a practice in Freeport but wanted a second space in Sterling. He's so busy in Freeport, though, that he had to give up the spot.

Zachary, a chemist, was working in research and development, but decided he wanted to be his own boss. "The time was right," he said, to open Eclectic.

The 1998 Sterling High grad also is a woodworker, and will be selling his own creations.

Eclectic will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Call 815-535-6337 for rental prices and other information; a Facebook page is in the works.
