Oetting earns
all-region honor

Muscatine Community College freshman Bailey Oetting earned all-Region XI first-team honors this season as a catcher.

A 2013 Sterling High School graduate, Oetting batted .235 with 10 doubles, three home runs and 22 RBIs. Defensively, she had one error in 200 chances, with 19 assists. She also threw out 14 of 22 base stealers.

Oetting helped the
Cardinals post a 36-14 record this past season.


Montoya retuning

Juan Pablo Montoya, who returned to IndyCar racing this season after 7 years driving in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series, will drive in two NASCAR races this summer, Team Penske said Wednesday.

Montoya, 38, will drive Penske’s No. 12 Ford at Michigan International Speedway on June 15, and at the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 27.


Crawford named
top sixth man

Clippers reserve guard Jamal Crawford will be named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award winner for the second time in his 14-year career.

Crawford won the award in 2010 while with the Atlanta Hawks.


Trump buys
British Open course

Donald Trump expanded his golf empire with his
biggest acquisition yet – Turnberry.

Trump announced Tuesday that he has agreed to buy the picturesque links course and resort on the west coast of Scotland, which has hosted the British Open four times. The most recent was in 2009, when Stewart Cink won a playoff over 59-year-old Tom Watson.


Yankees’ Pineda
has muscle strain

Right-hander Michael Pineda will miss at least 3 weeks with a strained muscle.

Halfway through a 10-game suspension for using pine tar last Thursday against the Red Sox, the Yankees announced that the pitcher was taken for an MRI exam that revealed a grade 1 strain of the teres major muscle, which is in between the lat and the shoulder.


Player murdered in N. Carolina

A linebacker at North Carolina A&T has been shot and killed on the street in front of his Greensboro home.

Greensboro police said 22-year-old Jermane Darnell Clark of Winston-Salem was shot about 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Capt. Mike Richey said it appears Clark was approached by one or more people and an argument started and he was shot. Police don’t know what sparked the argument and have not determined a motive, although investigators do not think Clark was robbed.
