CHANA – Roland L. Williams, 86, of Chana, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Rochelle Community Hospital.

He was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Sublette, the son of Charles E. and Emma “Irene” (Hicks) Williams. He graduated from Amboy High School on May 29, 1947. He married Violet L. Hoelzer on Jan. 21, 1951. She preceded him in death on May 27, 1999. Roland owned and operated his own trucking company and farmed in the Chana area alongside his wife for many years. He also drove a truck for Burch Carmichael of Rochelle for about 15 years. He was a former Ogle County deputy sheriff. Roland was a member of Blackhawk Snowmobile Club. He also liked to ride his Harley, and go on trail rides.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Tom) Evans, and son, Gregg Williams, both of Chana; four grandchildren, Keeta and Tanya Evans, Anita (Mike) Friedlund, and Jason (Megan) Windland; and four great-grandchildren, Colin, Morgan, Bradly, and Jessica.  

He also was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Sharon Windland.

There will be no visitation. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. May 3 at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rochelle, with the Rev. Anne Erickson officiating.

A memorial fund is established to the Alzheimer’s Association.
