Dixon police warn of phone scam

DIXON – Dixon residents are asked to beware of phone calls from someone who claims to be with the U.S. Treasury.

Dixon police issued a news release Thursday that a phone scam had been reported in the Dixon area. A caller from the 917 area code will claim to be a representative from the Treasury Department, saying that those called are behind on their federal income taxes.

Calls from the 917 area code originate from New York City and possibly are scam phone calls. Police request that any residents who receive calls from 917 not provide any personal information to the caller. Such calls can be reported to Dixon police at 815-288-4411 or Crime Stoppers at 888-228-4488.
