Sign-up open for walk against birth defects

DIXON – The March of Dimes annual March for Babies will be May 3 at Page Park on Page Park Drive.

This year’s Sauk Valley ambassador family is the Loescher-Blackburns. Marisa and Purdue are the parents of two daughters who were born prematurely at Rockford Memorial Hospital. The babies spent 106 days in the newborn intensive care unit before coming home. The March of Dimes was instrumental in regionalizing the unit.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Lions Shelter, and the 3-mile walk at 9 a.m.

It is presented by Wahl Clipper of Sterling.

The March of Dimes has given more than $134,000 over 16 years in community grants in the Sauk Valley area. Last year, Whiteside County Health Department received $6,500.
