Whiteside County Senior center to host parties, classes, and meals

STERLING – A Cinco de Mayo party will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Whiteside County Senior Center’s dining room, 1207 W. Ninth St.

The center’s line dancers will perform, and there will be giveaways. The $5 lunch includes tacos, refried beans, rice, dessert, and a beverage.

An AARP Driver Safety Class, led by Arlyn and Jonnie Thomson, will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday and May 10. The program is to help seniors learn the effects of aging on driving and how to adjust. The cost is $15 for AARP members with an AARP card or number, and $20 for nonmembers. Registration is required.

A free Medicare information class will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The class is for those new to Medicare or who want additional information on the program. Registration is required.

May 14 activities are:

A free “Rules of the Road” class is at 10 a.m. The refresher course will help seniors take their driving test. Registration is required.

“Dance Like a Chicken Day” will be at 11 a.m. Line dancers and anyone who wants to join in will do the chicken dance. A $5 lunch of baked mostaccioli, salad, garlic bread, dessert, and a beverage will be served.

A fashion show is planned at noon. Models will display clothes, jewelry, and purses from The Emporium Thrift Center. All items will be available for purchase.

An Older American Party will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 15. Games will be played, with prizes to go to first- and second-place winners.
