Thank you for supporting SVM reporter David Giuliani’s work. He has discovered a reluctant Sterling Township official, Mr. Howze, who didn’t want to answer questions or provide paperwork.
David uncovered the fact that Coloma Township hasn’t had an audit for 20 years and the person in charge says she doesn’t know how to do math.
David wrote about Sheriff Harn’s tow fee, which raised six figures of income for Ogle County by taking advantage of people arrested.
Years ago, angered by our rising real estate taxes, I rented the Sterling Coliseum myself, paid for advertising, and was astonished to find more than 300 people in the audience who were upset about rising real estate taxes.
I formed Taxpayers United so we could go after the spenders responsible for spending that impacts taxation.
All sorts of volunteers assembled at our forthcoming meetings. I soon learned I didn’t have the legal or mathematical ability to understand legalities and financial statements. I could find no attorney or accountant willing to help us.
Taxpayers United died an early death because, one by one, the volunteers faded into the woodwork, and I became a general without an army.
It takes a lot of courage for David Giuliani to confront people who have become insensitive because of their power. It also takes a bit of knowledge and skill to do what David does.
I’ve thanked David personally and now publicly. Keep it up, David, because you’ve just uncovered the tip of the iceberg.
