Warriors roll on road

Mustangs pull away with late big inning

Brady Siegmund had five RBIs on a double and an inside-the-park home run, leading the Sterling Golden Warriors to a road victory over Streator in the NIB-12 West opener for both squads.

Sterling scored in each of the first four innings, capped with a six-run fourth.

Brandon Dennis had three hits, scored three runs, stole four bases and added two RBIs, while Frankie Perino drove in a pair of runs.

Zach Rehmert and Kolton Wright also had RBIs for the Warriors (2-4, 1-0).

Bryant Lilly (1-1) went the distance in the win, overcoming the Bulldogs’ three-run first inning. He allowed two earned runs and six hits.

Morrison 12, Orion 1, 6 inn.: The Mustangs turned a 3-1 lead after four innings into a run-rule affair on the road with a nine-run sixth.

Ben Tegeler and Bill Lee Greul had two hits and two RBIs each, while Brock Smith and Kollin Burn added two hits and one RBI apiece for Morrison (3-2). Ryan VanZuiden and Triston Houzenga also drove in runs, and VanZuiden (1-0) struck out eight and walked two in a two-hitter, allowing one unearned run.

Sherrard 19, Amboy 0, 5 inn.: It was rough night for the Clippers on a road trip to Sherrard.

Two big innings were plenty for the Tigers, as they had a 10-run first inning, and they added seven more in the third.

Will Crownhart took the loss for Amboy.

Galena 10, AFC 0, 5 inn.: The Raiders managed just one hit in an NUIC crossover loss at Rockford Aviator Stadium.

Troy Mairs (0-2) took the loss for AFC (0-5). James McIntyre drove in three runs for Galena.
