JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Paul Joseph Walter, 57, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at his home, after a battle with melanoma. He worked for ABB in Jefferson City.

He was born March 23, 1956, in Sterling, the son of Leonard and Helen (McSweeney) Walter. He married Marilyn Trachsel on Aug. 29, 2008, in Jefferson City.                

Survivors include his wife; a son, Eric Walter of Pikeville, Ky.; a grandson; a stepson, Tim (Micayla) Koelling of Holdrege, Neb.; his mother-in-law, Wilma Trachsel of Chamois, Mo.; six siblings, Kathy (Fort) Battad of Texas, Tom (Judy) Walter of Iowa, Joanne Hayes of South Carolina, Steve (Theresa) Walter of Washington, Jeanne Walter of Virginia, and Larry (Connie) Walter of Illinois; and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral was March 16 at St. John United Church of Christ in Chamois, Mo. Interment was at St. Mary Cemetery in Chamois. Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City handled arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ, 407 S. Vine St., and Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 106 W. Second St., both in Chamois, MO 65024, or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
