DIXON – Margie E. Bonnewell, 78, of Dixon, went to be with our Lord and Savior, with her family by her side, after a long and courageous battle fighting cancer and renal failure, at 5:06 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at her home.

She was born Feb. 3, 1936, in DeSmet, S.D., to Gustave A. and Mamie J. (Johnson) Johnson. She married Boyd L. “Barney” Bonnewell on Sept. 27, 1953, in Dixon.

She and her husband formerly owned and operated the Mecca Inn and the Cottage Inn, both in Dixon. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon.

Survivors include her husband; her children, April (Terry “Shawn”) Spencer and Bobbi (Louie Cecchetti) Darr, both of Dixon, Curtis J. Bonnewell of Tempe, Ariz., and Brent E. (DeAnn) Bonnewell of Dixon; four grandchildren: Creedence J. (Jami) Bonnewell of Dixon, Casey (David) Minker and George (Jennifer) Laughton, both of Peoria, Ariz., and BreAnn Helfrich of Dixon; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Boyd “Butch” Bonnewell Jr.; and her siblings, Russell Johnson, Dorothy Schier, Arthur Johnson, Clifford Johnson, Ralph Johnson, Dean Johnson, and Laverne “Boob” Johnson.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon and the funeral at noon Monday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon, with the Rev. Janet Wittenmyer officiating. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
