MUNCIE, Ind. – Gladys V. Hansen, 100, of Muncie, passed away Friday evening, April 4, 2014, at CrownPointe of Anderson in Anderson, Ind.
She was born Nov. 5, 1913, in Sterling, the daughter of Onno and Henrietta A. (Lauts) Otten. Gladys attended schools in the Sterling area. She married James Walter Hansen Jr. on Feb. 21, 1939, in Sterling.
She worked as a secretary for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., and Seattle. Gladys was the oldest living member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Muncie. She volunteered for many years at St. Mary School and Ball Memorial Hospital.
Gladys enjoyed playing golf at the Elks, where she was a member. She attended “55 Alive,” and was an avid card player and greeting card maker. She loved interior decorating, which she practiced almost daily until her death.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Ron) Mixell of Muncie and Carol Laughlin of Wichita; eight grandchildren, Barbara Wesolowski, Kristina Benkeser, Lori Osborn, Francesca Heminger, Deborah Mixell, Elizabeth Collins, Andy Mixell and Joseph (Jill) Mixell; and six great-grandchildren, Katherine, Jaclyn, Faith, Jessica, Anna, and Elijah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James, on April 5, 1986; son-in-law, Karl Benkeser; grandson, Michael Osborn; grandson-in-law, Joseph Wesolowski; great-granddaughter, Michelle Wesolowski; granddaughter-in-law, Karen Collins; three sisters; and one brother.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, followed by a celebration of life service at 2 p.m. Monday, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel in Muncie, with the Rev. Tracy Paschke-Johannes officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.
