STERLING – Sterling police officers and Whiteside County sheriff’s deputies responded to an apparent domestic violence call just outside Sterling city limits early Tuesday.

Sterling Police Lt. Tim Morgan said a woman called 911 and reported a domestic violence situation in which she thought the man had a gun.

Authorities responded and drew their weapons until the man came out of the building and officers were able to make sure he was unarmed, Morgan said.

No other details were available, but Whiteside County Sheriff Kelly Wilhelmi said the man was arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm without a FOID card.
