Campground for river, canal visitors needed

Published: Monday, April 14, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

Hello, friends.

Location, location, location – we have that right here in the Tri-Cities, right?

We also just happen to have a national water trail, the Rock River, running through our towns.

We have a 107-year old historical landmark and national recreational trail in the Hennepin Canal, with numerous opportunities for recreational fun, great biking trails and water trails.

So, where is the campground so that these people have a place to stay? A primitive campground takes little investment and has big returns. It’s a money maker, and people will come and stay and spend money here.

The Tri-Cities has so much untapped possibilities. I do not understand why we are not a major destination.

Maybe this is one of reasons. Why are we not taking advantage now?

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
