DIXON – By the end of June, Dixon might have a few small businesses ready to open.

The dates for the Dixon Business Competition have been released. The competition begins with an informational meeting on April 23 and ends with a public pitch competition on June 25, when each finalist will deliver a 2-minute “elevator pitch.”

Winners will split $10,000 in cash and $6,000 free commercial rent credit.

In a news release, Mayor Jim Burke said the competition will help entrepreneurs analyze the market, identify competition and build a summary business plan.

“As Mayor, I want to support the business climate and promote the start-up of new businesses in Dixon,” he said.

There will be three 3-hour workshops for participants to develop and refine their summary business plans and final pitches to the judges.

The first workshop will be held on Friday, May 16, with two workshops on Saturday, May 17.

The competition is being run by St. Louis-based Venture Advisors. It’s being funded by local supporters contributing up to $1,000 each.
