ROCKFORD (AP) – Two men have died and a third man was injured in a fire in an abandoned home in Rockford.

The Rockford Register Star reported the fire happened early Monday. Fire officials say firefighters searched the home and found two men dead at the scene. Rockford officials say a third homeless man escaped the fire and was taken to a hospital to treat smoke inhalation.

Investigator Tim Morris says officials are requesting emergency demolition of the home because of extensive damage. Morris says fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze.
