STERLING – Isabel Valdivia, 88, of Sterling, died peacefully Thursday, April 3, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Born March 29, 1926, in Kansas City, Kan., she was the daughter of Telesforo and Luz (Cabrera) Vargas. On Dec. 31, 1946, she was united in marriage to Salvador Valdivia in Oletha, Kan. She was a beloved, faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling and the Family of Praise Charismatic Prayer Group. Isabel always was ready to pray for, and with, anyone in need.

Those left to honor her memory include four daughters, Yvonne (Ernest) Quevedo, Benita (John) Mendoza, Marcella (Richard) Wells, and Margaret (Tim) DeGolyer, all of Sterling; three sons, Salvador (Laurie) Valdivia of Loveland, Colo., Aaron (Kathleen) Valdivia of Ellicott City, Md., and Phillip (Shari) Valdivia of Simi Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Hillary Loya and Ruth Fernandez, both of Kansas City; 24 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Isabel was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Suzanne Villa; grandson, Lawrence; brothers, Jess and Phillip Gonzalez; and sisters, Aurora and Mary Vargas.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., with the rosary recited at 3 p.m., Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with the Rev. James Keenan officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.
