MACHESNEY PARK – William R. Peters, 75, of Machesney Park, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Nelson-Debes Subacute Complex in Rockford.

Bill was born April 18, 1938, in Aurora, the son of Reinhardt W. and Gertrude E. (Flanigan) Peters. He was a veteran of the Army. He married Susan A. Thorell on Jan. 28, 1961, in Loves Park. Bill was employed by NCR for 35 years, retiring in 1994. He volunteered at the Loves Park Fire Department for more than 10 years. Bill (WB9MCZ) was president of the Amateur Radio Club in Sterling. He also was a member of the Jaycees, Moose Club, and American Legion. He was a 10-gallon blood donor.

Survivors include his wife, Susan; his children, Lindi (Garth) Anderson, Brenda (Charlie) Anderson and Randy (Leslie McClure) Peters; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitaiton will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

A memorial will be established.
